Just as our lives are made up of many faceted layers, whether visible or invisible, natural or spiritual, the unique and intricate process of mixed media and assemblage allows my work to become an intuitive spiritual and visual journey through layers composed of memories, impressions and metaphors.
The complex and textured layers consist of discarded found objects, reclaimed elements, and fragments of journal notes, text, handmade paper and ephemera. Multiple mediums, including oil, acrylic, graphite, oil pastel, clay, ashes and bees wax allow some components to appear hidden while still contributing to the value of the whole.
Through metaphor and narrative, I seek to evoke an awareness of transcendent paradoxes;
beauty for ashes ~
strength through weakness ~
honor for shame ~
redemption in suffering ~
light amid darkness.
